Mina was started by Ashley Tate, Chris Dalrymple and Andy Gunn in leafy Sheffield, UK.
The three met by chance - Ash and Chris through Sheffield Digital and Ash and Andy went to the same gym! Ash spent 10 years working in the utilities and energy industry, building Split the Bills from scratch, and Andy and Chris have between them decades of experience building digital products. It was Ash who first had the idea to simplify payments for EV charging.
Mina was founded in late 2019 with a clear mission – to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles by making paying for EV charging radically simple.
We have the UK’s only EV payment solution which allows fleet vehicles to be charged at home and on the road, resulting in one simple bill for the fleet owner. With Homecharge, Mina pays the driver's electricity supplier directly for the exact cost of charging their electric vehicle at home, and with Chargepass, drivers can charge on the go giving them access to thousands of public charge points across the UK using one single RFID card.
This makes paying for EV charging transparent, accurate and easy for employers and employees.
Fast forward to today, and Mina’s solution is award winning, with some of the UK’s biggest fleets using the platform. We’ve raised significant investment from our brilliant Angel investors, the government’s Innovate UK investment scheme and most recently investment from Fleetcor - one of the world’s largest B2B payment companies.
Why the name Mina? Mina Miller was Thomas Edison’s wife. Nicknamed the Wizard’s Wife she was described as an incredible woman, a philanthropist and Edison himself called her “a yardstick for measuring perfection”. We can’t claim to be perfect, but we do love her story and are proud to honour her in a small way.
